Are you aware of any good app that accomplishes this? My primary interest is playing Apple Music.

I know Apple Remote only controls an AppleTV or iTunes library on a Mac.

A quick review only reveals a couple of 1-star rated programs that are said not to work.

What's appealing about this setup as opposed to a Bluetooth adapter streaming my phone, etc. is the higher fidelity of a direct wired connection from the music source to the Onkyo mini-amp.

I think this could be better accomplished with an AppleTV or Airport Express [with audio jack].

Not saying it's impossible, it's just that the products I listed are designed with that in mind.

I actually may have an ancient Airport Express somewhere. But will that pull Apple Music from my phone via wifi into a stereo?

And certainly when I upgrade my Apple TV, that will be an option.

Jailbreak, install kodi on the ipad, move your media onto the ipad, and use kodi remote on the iphone. Done.

AirPlay from my iPod touch (5th generation) to my original Airport Express (2004 model!) works fine. The iPod touch is playing from my own iTunes library, not Apple Music.

I found an app called Tango Remote that seems to be doing what I need competently.

It can't start an Apple Music session, but it can advance them forward or backward once you've started it on the iPad.

As far as controlling the music stored on your iDevice, it seems to work really well - playlists, albums, volume all work normally.

This is a good $5 solution for me, for the time being.
