Saw the pilot. Very well done.

Up next in my queue.

...But this weekend's binge is Jessica Jones.

I watched the first episode last night but wasn't very motivated to continue with it.

I did see all of BBC's River on Netflix (6 one hour episodes) and enjoyed it very much.

I read the book many years ago...
I found it excruciatingly boring and plodding.

I read a review at NYT.

What they basically said was that it's a good idea, with a very good plot, but it has terrible character development and poor writing.

That describes the book pretty well.. Great setup, totally squandered.

Re: The Man In The High Castle - jdc - 11-22-2015

Im on episode 9, watching over the last few days.

I find it boring as all get out. didnt have anything else, and I like the alt WWII genre, and keep waiting for this to go somewhere... but nothing.

Will finish out the season, but doubt if the get me for season 2.

Felt the same way about Gotham. Thought there was potential, but just kinda lost me at the end. Never did start up season 2.

Reviews say that they tried too hard to add action to what was a very cerebral ride in the book. But the political message is a solid one for our times.

I like High Castle, but it *is* slow.

It's not an action show, so the pacing is realistically slow.

I'd seen the pilot when it was first "auditioned", and have been waiting for the series to start. I don't know that I'll stick around for a second season, if there is one. I really do like a little faster, more episodic pacing.

I'm a big fan of Gotham, and am really enjoying the second season.

However, there is a glut of dark shows, for my taste. These are shows in which there is never a ray of sunshine, and almost no hope of escaping perils found in the seamy underbelly of crime infested urban life.

Thankfully, there's Blackish, QI, Doc Martin, The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, et al, to make me laugh a little.

Now would be a very good time for a film or mini-series adaptation of Sinclair Lewis's "It Can't Happen Here.". It would tie into the current political landscape very well. My only fear is that too many would think it was a good idea.
