Any huge downside to getting mom a refurb iPad Air vs iPad Air 2? - stephen - 11-22-2015

I see some deals on the 16 gb Air + cellular - and she has commented she would like some limited ability to use outside the home.

Wifi passwords confuse her.

She uses an iPad 2 right now. My biggest goals are to give her respectable speed and to future-proof her as far as OS and common apps.

Get her an iPad Pro. She can kill two birds with one stone. Use the iPad Pro and exercise while lifting it up and down. LOL

the Air is very good but the Air 2 will be a bit better.

She'll love either one over the iPad 2. Well, except for the newer iOS if she is using iOS 6.

....depends on what she uses it for.....how technologically savvy she is.....

.......my parents are horrible with technology.....so no point in getting them the newest 'cause they wouldn't now what to do with it......if she only does basic stuff.....why get her the latest (most expensive - unless you can afford it).......????

Whichever you buy it should have at least 32 GB. A 32 GB iPad is a much better choice than 16GB. The OS uses a lot of that 16GB.

Hmm…the iPad Pro only weighs about a fifth of a pound more than her current iPad 2.

No problem with 16 GB here. FWIW, Air 2s only come in 16 or 64.

I would think either would be more than fine -- have you asked her if theres something wrong with her current iPad?

Of course, Im sure you are already aware that shes gonna need some sort of data plan in addition. $$.

Im assuming the wifi comment had to do with accessing "public" wifi while shes out? Because at home, Im sure shes never had to enter a password ever, except for the very first time it was setup.

Most public wifi will not ask you to enter a passowrd, usually just an "accept" button. And any place that does ask for a password, iOS is smart enough to take you right to the "enter password" screen and type it right in. And of course, it will remember that password forever.

My 80 yo mom really wanted an iphone - didn't want to be left behind in communication tech. The thing is befuddling to her. She's pretty much given up on it now.
