FiOS router replacement - Fritz - 02-14-2016

has anyone here sent their FiOS Quantum Gateway 1100 back and bought a used or refurbed ActionTec MI424WR Rev. I to replace it?
I'm thinking FiOS doesn't really need an extra $10 a month since I'm internet only and no TV or phone.

You can get them to switch your connection to the ethernet jack on your ONT and then you can use any router.

but from there, I'd need to have ethernet to the replacement router because the original install is coax to FiOS router ........ correct? And they'd prolly charge an insane service for the change to ethernet as well?

Are you sure you're paying a router rental fee? I just checked my bills and the only equipment fees I see are for DVRs and set-top boxes.

I think there are some tricks to it but i did it with only a little bit of trouble.

for some reason i was given a router without a monthly fee.

Matt,

Verizon offers different routers, depending on your level of service. They have the standard FIOS router, the advanced router (which is a gigabit model with two antennas) and the Quantum Gateway (which is the newest Verizon router). Whether or not you're paying a monthly rental fee for the router depends on which model router and/or when you signed up for the FIOS service.

My operations manager has FIOS and the advanced router. He pays a monthly fee for it. I have the advanced Router (which is the same unit Fritz is thinking about buying as a refurb). No monthly fee. I've had FIOS in my current apartment since 2012. He ordered his serve in 2015.

I can move up to the Quantum Gateway by renting it or purchasing it. If I want to rent it, the cost is $10.00 per month. Verizon sells the Quantum Gateway for $199. You can buy the Quantum Gateway from a 3rd party. From what I understand, the Quantum Gateway is essentially a repackaged ActionTec router. If you buy it from Verizon, I'm betting it's plug and play. If you get it elsewhere, you may need to go through some hoops to get it operating properly with the service. May is the oeprative word.

They do run specials on the routers, I have the Quantum Gateway and I think I paid $100 last year.
