For the first time in YEARS, I am running the latest OS on my main work machine - hal - 02-15-2016 I fell too much in love with my 10.6.8 set up. It was only a few months before 10.7 was released that I embraced Spaces in a BIG way. Three monitors with three spaces - I had a VAST work area that I really, really customized. 10.7 had such crappy reviews that I was happy to stay with my 10.6 system that was just perfect. But 10.7 came and went... 10.8 came and went... 10.9 came along and I was WAY behind. Once it was revealed that 10.10 was around the corner, I decided that ready or not, I had to move forward and got myself up to 10.9 while 10.10 was still new - the idea was to get up to 10.10 soon, but reviews held me back again. I just bought a late 2014 imac that requires 10.10 so NOW was the time to get all the way current. I'm there - I'm pleased. I got my printer working, got and old java installer for my Photoshop CS5. Mail and iTunes look just like the did under 10.9 despite of what I've heard - I've got everything the way that I like it EXCEPT for spaces... 10.11 killed TotalSpaces2 which was the only way to keep my 10.6 spaces set up going. I understand that there is a workaround but its not a a good one - every app update would require Terminal work and every OS update might break it again. So, I will wander around in this new space and try to find a comfortable place in it... at least I'm current. That's a big deal to me. I like to have access to all of the latest stuff and HATE finding workarounds for old software. PS THANK YOU Canon for continuing to write new drivers for my old MF printer that was first introduced in 2008. Re: For the first time in YEARS, I am running the latest OS on my main work machine - hal - 02-15-2016 I will give it a chance - I've been using the Magic Trackpad for a LONG time now... it's the only pointing device that NEVER bothers my wrist. I have a magic mouse nearby too and use that sometimes, but generally I find the trackpad the easiest to use. Or are you asking about Mission Control? Which I have never used much... Re: For the first time in YEARS, I am running the latest OS on my main work machine - jdc - 02-15-2016 Whoops, sorry, yeah, I was asking onamuji about MC. Ive been using the trackpad since Dec when my carpal tunnel was killing me. I still dont love it. Cant seem to figure the 3 finger drag, and it never really seems to work the way I want. and lots of random clicks kill me. Re: For the first time in YEARS, I am running the latest OS on my main work machine - Onamuji - 02-15-2016 I'm not into using full-screen apps, but I do move a lot of app windows to alternate desktops. A two-finger tap on a Magic Mouse isn't hard to get used to, but MC really shines with a Magic Trackpad. Nailing the reflexes to multi-finger-swipe or control+arrow or command+tab may take some time. Re: For the first time in YEARS, I am running the latest OS on my main work machine - jdc - 02-15-2016 Since starting this thread, Ive setup a couple of extra desktops, but cant seem to find a trackpad shortcut. I activated a hot corner, but not sure if thats the most efficient answer. Im not sure how to move apps to other windows or even what these other windows are getting me -- since I keep having to switch back and forth. I like to have everything open where I can see it. Too lazy to even use app switchers. The way I had things set up before, I had one main work area - a three finger swipe up would bring me to a different work area 'above', a three finger swipe down to a third unique work area 'below'. Everything I need is open and in front - I only needed to switch to the right work area. I'm trying to stop ALL full screen app nonsense... I'm sure that I"ll eventually get comfortable. |
