Speaking of Vintage Audio - How About HDMI? - SteveO - 02-15-2016
Okay so the thread Dennis posted has me seriously jonesing to put my Marantz 2230 back into service. One major sticking point: HDMI. And a sorta' minor one: remote control. Does anyone know of a way to abilihi-fi both of these features to make old and new equipment play nice?

How does adding a remote work? Without wiring one in?
HDMI could work if you have an HDMI switch box and then a box to break out sound to the receiver (video would then input back into the TV). Those old receivers can't do modern surround sound, have no video inputs, and no remote. That's why I moved on, well, mostly the lack of a remote.

I pushed Bluetooth 2 to my 1970's Kenwood with a Griffin Bluetrip I picked up after a DM alert that they were cheap. It's not 'audiophile', but it works.

My home stereo uses and AppleTV4 and a vintage Accuphase stereo. Here is how I have it wired.
All HDMI devices go directly into TV HDMI inputs (I only have ATV4 and Roku3)
Optical output from TV goes to FiiO D07 DAC which converts to analog
FiiO D07 DAC goes to a vintage infrared volume control
volume control goes into vintage stereo (I could probably put this in a tape loop)
done
You can buy a modern infrared volume control for your vintage stereo fairly inexpensively, http://www.ebay.com/itm/140865254355

TV headphone out to RCA inputs of stereo. TV controls volume.
Using an older NAD receiver, have misplaced its remote. Sounds really good.
