I wish Apple….. - samintx - 02-15-2016

Remember the days when you could choose what part of the OS you needed to install or revive on your computer? you could pick certain parts…now you can't and there are times I'd like to just reinstall a certain program. I am really getting tired of Apple deciding what cables, connections and OS they will continue. They decide for me…I have no freewill anymore with their computers. grrrr

samintx-
Yep. Apple made that change to 'simplify' their OSen. Unlike WinDoze with the baffling array of drivers and gizmos and whatnot that fails quite readily.

Ultimately bloated OSen forces you to upgrade your hardware periodically. You can never have too much RAM or too big of a hard drive !

I hear you, Sam. I should probably reinstall Mail but it's not worth having to reinstall the entire OS.

What version of OS X, $tevie?

OT: I see where they have a recall of MBP cables.(2015)

10.6.8 it's the highest I can go on my antique iMac 2007.

There are worse things than running 10.6.8. :-)

Stevie, I'm running El Cap on my 2007 first gen Aluminum iMac. With a SSD it feels like a new machine!

I'm running El Cap on my 2007 first gen Aluminum iMac.

That would be the Mid-2007, 7,1 iMac.

It looks like all the iMacs going forward can run the lastest OS (El Cap).

My Late-2007, 3,1 MacBook tops out at 10.7.5.

Maybe $tevie has another reason why she can't put something newer than 10.6.8 on that iMac, like the lack of Rosetta in any newer OS.
