Canopus ADVC-100 to 2014 Mac Mini - Tommie Milwaukee - 02-15-2016
I was able to connect the old Canopus unit via a Firewire 400>Firewire 800 cable>Firewire to Mini DisplayPort adapter.
The Canopus id recognized in QuickTime & iMovie, but I only get a black screen when importing.
Has anyone else been able to use an old Canopus with a new Mac, or do I have to buy a USB convertor like the Roxio unit or the Elgato unit?

do you get audio, perchance? I've used a similar model with my 2012 macbook pro. if I recall correctly, there are a couple of dip switches that control which input you are using.

No video or audio in either App.

positive that your video source (VCR, video camera, etc) is actually playing/outputting video and audio? If "yes" to that, and the computer is seeing the device, there's no reason it shouldn't be importing the video. If I remember, I'll try and pull out my Canopus and take a look at it.

Interesting. I have an old ADVC-50 card that I put in an external case (you could do that... it only used PCI for power, and has a standard external power input for stand-alone use), but I haven't tried to plug it in to anything in years. I don't think my current mobo even has a Firewire port, or I'd give it a try.
