32GB iPad Pro Wi-Fi $698 with Free Shipping ($101 off) on eBay - steve... - 02-16-2016

eBay

This is the best Pro discount I've noticed.

I really want one - never owned an iOS device before.

I would be using it mostly for drawing with the Apple pencil and doing final editing in Photoshop on my iMac. My final art files are typically in the 25-125 MB size.

For what reasons might I regret not getting the 128GB version? - TIA

My daughter got one; once she got used to the Pencil (she's used a Wacom Cintiq for a while, along with "natural" pencils and etc.), she's said the experience is amazing. I forget what app she uses for drawing but, after some initial skepticism, she's completely sold on the Pencil.

As far as space goes, I always tell people to get the most they can afford to get; you're never really going to say I have too much storage. Given cloud storage and all these days, I'm not sure how much that still applies on iOS Devices.

iOS uses about 25% of the memory on the 32GB model. How much more to get the full 128GB? I believe that you do NOT get GPS capability on a WiFi only model either (partially mitigated if you have a good WiFi connection).

That seems excessive. Do people's 16GB iOS devices only have 8GB free after iOS install? That's not what I've heard nor what I have experienced.

From what I've read, YES.

Whatever capacity you buy is what you're married to FOREVER. As these well-built devices are viable for over five years, what's serviceable now may well be quite limiting down the road. If expected use would include watching movies (which can easily exceed 4GB / movie) it's not too hard to run out of space. Many computers (and this IS a tablet computer) start to bog down when free space gets tight. I think it would be a shame to set yourself up for problems down the road when they could have been avoided at the time of purchase. Of course, if money is tight (as it often is) the base model may be all a person might be able to afford. If a buyer can swing the extra $100~$200, they'll be rewarded with a more capable, longer lasting product. As a rule, I always buy the greatest capacity model available. I've never regretted doing so and, am rewarded by a better resale price when I sell it years later.

I checked Staples website - they have 128 GB versions on sale for $799 with free shipping through Feb 20 (none in stock near me). That's $150 off but sales tax would add $60 for me.

I am so tempted.

OK, so I had a look at a couple of 16GB devices I recently set up for a client, a 16GB iPod touch and a 16GB iPad Mini 2. Through our management console I can see that they have 12.1 and 12.0GB of available storage, minus about 2.1GB used which consists of our managed software which we push onto the device (Word, Excel, OneNote, etc.), leaving about 9.8GB left on each device.

Also Apple uses the silly 16,000,000,000 = 16GB when speccing out the storage but uses the 1024^3 calculation when showing free RAM, so you really only get 14.9 GB to start…

Price match staples at Target and get an additional 5% with the target card.
iOS 9 takes less than 2GB.
