Amazon Echo... any good - Go To Top - 02-24-2016

Someone wants to gift me.

I cannot figure why I would need it.

Do yo have Amazon Prime? You can use it to stream quite a bit of music and it sounds pretty darned amazing. I know that I was impressed with it. It's also handy for answer trivia. You can connect it to your phone and ask it questions from elsewhere in your home, or just speak in its vicinity and it will respond.

Then that's a problem, given that the Echo isn't cheap. Maybe you should pass and spare the generosity of the gifter.

I know little about it, but every mention I've seen by someone who owns one, is a rave, not one complaint seen, have I.

One can tell Alexa to play music, make phone calls (after pairing a smartphone), access Spotify, your Amazon library as well as whatever Amazon streams, and lots of other stuff via IFTTT. Also, some of the various smart home automation devices can be access through Alexa.

If it wasn't so pricy ($179?) I'd take one for a spin.

If being given an Echo as a gift doesn't put a strain on someone's budget, I say take it and go exploring. But if that's not your bag, pass.

Love our Echo, and Amazon keeps adding features.

Put it in the kitchen, easy timers, music (especially if you have Spotify), and more.

Leo Laporte from TWIT https://twit.tv/people/leo-laporte is very enthusiastic about his. I would buy one but I'm afraid I would become further disenchanted with Siri if I did. :-)
