First, I'd heard of him and that's a bit upsetting. People like this didn't get enough widespread public recognition, without Spielberg most of us wouldn't know who Schindler was either.

One of quite a few that tried to save people. His story has been covered in the US.

I loved the part on the video, when the audience was asked to stand up if they were alive because of Nicholas Winton, everyone stood.

I have a friend who was saved due to one of the Kindertransport--he lectures on reconciliation and forgiveness.

There was an article about him in the NY Times within the last year or so.
I knew about Schindler before the movie, because I had read the book. Seems to me the book did quite well, but I could be having a brain far+ about that. Another good book that generated a movie was "The Last Jews in Berlin". Jürgen Prochnow was in the movie, can't remember what it was called.
