"Hurricane force" winds on the way to NW Iowa - davec - 07-07-2016 Our local meteorologist just announced that we are expected to have 60 to 80 mph winds in NW Iowa this evening. We do get some strong winds in Iowa, but usually nothing this severe. Several weeks ago we had a 68 mph gust recorded in our small town. We had one large limb come down, but otherwise came out okay. I probably won't get much sleep until this front moves past us. Dave Re: "Hurricane force" winds on the way to NW Iowa - lost in space - 07-07-2016 Good luck to all out there. ![]() Re: "Hurricane force" winds on the way to NW Iowa - davec - 07-07-2016 Lost in space- thanks for the well wishes. It is reported that the storm front is moving fast, so by 12:30 / 1:00 AM it should be past us. Dave Re: "Hurricane force" winds on the way to NW Iowa - Racer X - 07-07-2016 Pffffft. We get those multiple times every fall. Hope everyone comes out fine though. Re: "Hurricane force" winds on the way to NW Iowa - davec - 07-07-2016 Racer X- very true! ((chuckle)). I would have been much better able to deal with a blizzard in February or even a tornado warning in July. Those I have quite a bit of experience with. The lack of experience with the potential hurricane force winds made it more stressful. It appears the worst is now past us!! Thanks for the well-wishes! Dave Re: "Hurricane force" winds on the way to NW Iowa - Speedy - 07-07-2016 And did it knock the corn down? Re: "Hurricane force" winds on the way to NW Iowa - davec - 07-07-2016 Speedy- thankfully, the wind was significantly less than the meteorologists had predicted! Living in town I can't tell how the corn weathered ;-), but the coneflowers and daisies in my gardens are a bit tousled. The cleanup after this storm will be much less than the past one. :-) Thanks to all for the support and well-wishes! Dave |
