The Reichstag in Instanbul.... - max - 07-16-2016 The entire coup smells of a staged play. Making up with Putin and Israel just before, and cleaning up this way potential external threats sets the stage for this piece. When Erdogan came to power first time, he did something very similar, staged a pretense of a conspiracy and beheaded the Army, falsely accusing the top 300 officers. Even though a decade later they are getting to clear their name, now they are history, just a bunch of old men and has beens. The only threat to Erdogan was his old ally, Gulen, and this false coup is a pretext to purge perceived Gulen allies and anybody else that might look critically at Erdogan's regime..... Re: The Reichstag in Instanbul.... - OWC Jamie - 07-16-2016 Turkey's parliamentary democracy is supposed to have a prime minister running the government. Two terms. Erdogan should be gone. Now Turkey essentially has a de facto presidency which is looking more and more like a de facto dictatorship. Given Erdogans polarizations and continual tendency to stab supporters in the back I'm really surprised to have seen the public as supportive of quelling this coup as western media is reporting such.
