.......noticed a lot of providers are doing the same.....making old equipment obsolete....forcing you to upgrade.......for more expensive equipment.......sounds familiar.......???

Well I know they can remotely check for their hardware, so I would have to physically disconnect it to avoid the fee.
Would definitely like to replace with my own. Haven't started looking yet- any suggestions?

I'll take the load of horsepucky Verizon gave you and raise you a cart of stinky cowpie. Cablevision is the primary provider for access to the Internet and such in my area. They are the provider for my office. Out of the blue, they decided to implement a monthly rental fee for our existing cable modem. The age and model has no bearing on it. They just decided it was time to charge us a rental fee for it. Definite cash grab.

This is what class action lawsuits are designed to prevent. Unfortunately, your local cable monopoly has a service agreement that you signed that allows them to raise prices on everything, no reason needed. Best to just bend over and take it.

Well I may have already agreed to their terms, but there is no monopoly here. I am just exponentially more averse to the Comcrap alternative.
