the Cloud - Kate - 09-06-2016 I always back up my iDevices to my computer, but I have a friend who only backs up to the cloud and is asking advice. If she backs up everything to the cloud, can she restore to a new device and have the exact same setup on the new device? Kate Re: the Cloud - Filliam H. Muffman - 09-06-2016 My opinion is that relying on only the cloud pretty much guarantees that the data will be lost. Being able to restore to a new device requires that it be similar hardware and be running almost the same OS. If they have an iPhone 4 and running iOS 7, don't expect that everything can be restored to a 6S running iOS 11. Re: the Cloud - GuyGene - 09-06-2016 See? It DOES NOT just work, and, yes, Apple does make junk. This stuff is not simple nor secure. Re: the Cloud - cbelt3 - 09-06-2016 "The Cloud" == "Someone else's server" Re: the Cloud - Lew Zealand - 09-06-2016 GuyGene wrote: See what? Re: the Cloud - modelamac - 09-06-2016 kate, In theory, yes. You can restore to a new iDevice from a backup to the cloud, but only what was backed up.
