yes, in fact 2012 are in more demand: upgradeable RAM, QUAD core models, and I think also easier to upgrade internal drives. I seem to remember that some 2014 models are more difficult to swap internal drives.

You get 2x 2.5" SATA drive bays in a 2012 and only 1x 2.5" drive bay in a 2014 Mini. The second bay is used for the 4x as fast blade SSD but reduces the flexibility of configurations and upgrades.

The screens are IPS but they are pretty small. You will likely need computer glasses if you are over 40. The second one DOES have new enough graphics to properly run a 4K display, but both are limited to 16 GB of RAM. Even though they frequently have overheating issues I always recommend an iMac with a discrete GPU for long term usability.

My current computer is a very old (10 years?) Mini that's way too slow to be useful.
