Optical Disk Drive Error—What Is It? - mrlynn - 01-02-2017

A friend whose Mac Mini has an internal optical drive writes:

I just tried to burn my 2016 files to a DVD-RW disc, which I have successfully done in previous years, but this time I get a message that the disc won't burn because "communication between the computer and the disc drive failed." Error code 0x80020022.

Is this a solvable problem, short of replacing the drive?

try a different disk first.

If he has an optical drive, his mini must be 2010 or older, I would not bother replacing the drive. instead try an external drive ($15-20 on sales frequently at new egg).

yeah, try another disc first. Even try test burning some to a CD.

I had a batch of DVD-RW discs that were bad several years ago. After 4 consecutive bad burns, I switched to a different brand and had no problem.

Also try a DVD-R, not DVD-RW

Use only verbatim discs
