Audio is stuttering since upgrade - tuqqer - 02-03-2017

I'm getting a stuttering audio since upgrading my experimental Mac yesterday, and wondering if there's a file somewhere I can trash to fix it.

= the audio stutters only on a 2-month old set of Plantronics USB Headset. All other headsets and the internal audio work fine.
- tried multiple USB ports, ones directly in the Mac as well as a USB hub. All stutter (only with this particular Plantronics headset)
- However, this Plantronics USB headset works fine on my other Macs. It's only on this upgraded Mac that it stutters.
- Rebooted a number of times.
- Also reset the PRAM (I know, I had to try)
- Tried toggling different settings in System Preference Audio.

Any next guesses to troubleshooting? I'm thinking there's a plist file somewhere I could trash.

Any ideas? Most appreciated!

I would try locating the device in System Information.app and see if something comes up.
That kind of devices verge on the proprietary, the kind that require drivers.
A little while ago, the Nanokey2 took down my system until I remembered there were drivers to install.
You don't say what was the upgrade, though...
Good luck!

Thanks, rich in distress. My upgraded a MacPro to the latest 10.12.4 Beta that came out yesterday.

The device that is stuttering is called Plantronics .Audio 655 DSP. Nothing got installed with it, it was classic plug-and-play.

In my System Information app, here's what is appearing. If there's a way to install/reinstall any of this, I'm happy to try that.

WHOaaa... must be the squirrels...

Seriously, you have quite the nested audio system... and in a beta, well...
I would get rid of boom, soundflower, everything that is not essential. Then try and add one at a time.

Edit: I see you're game for uninstalling... maybe hit google. Here's some:

sudo kextunload -b com.globaldelight.driver.Boom2Device

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2771686?start=15&tstart=0

Dang, another edit: Or try a clean install... dunno if possible with system betas.

Re: Audio is stuttering since upgrade - tuqqer - 02-03-2017

Ok, got rid of everything in Audio devices, except Built-in Output.

Also uninstalled many apps that use audio, such as Skype, WhatsApp, Zoom video conference, and so on. (down to .kext files in some cases).

Audio on that headset still stutters. On my other Macs, that same headset works fine.

Man, this one's got me baffled.

I may need a nuke and pave.

There you go…

Re: Audio is stuttering since upgrade - tuqqer - 02-03-2017

Great ideas, all. Thank you.

Ran btfc's Terminal command in the link. No fix yet, so Nuke may be the way. I've been seeing weirdness on this drive for 6 months or so (thus my experiments with betas), so it may be time.
