Not sure what you are seeing. Does iTunes see the iPhone? The iPhone will not show up on the desktop.

iPhoto should see the iPhone. But the iPhone will have to be unlocked to download stuff. Try TouchID or entering your passcode on the iPhone with iPhoto running....

Hi numbered..

My asks me if I trust this computer..I say YEs.

iTunes shows mw an "invalid response' message.

I don't have iPhoto on my comp..not sure why..I never use it anyway but it's not here..there is a ? (question mark) on the dock..

look for the image capture app and see if that will work.

Ole School Remedy
Change cable and change what port you are using.

Question mark on the dock?
Alias on dock can not find program. You say you don't have it so drag to trash. Orphaned from a previous update.

This might be a version mismatch between the phone's iOS version and the Mac's iTunes version. Trying to correct this can lead to a version mismatch between the iTunes version and the Mac OS version on the Mac. Trying to correct that can lead to a version mismatch between the Mac OS version needed by the required iTunes and the age of the Mac hardware.

Did you "upgrade" something recently, like the iOS version on the phone?

There's a lot we don't know yet. Do you usually plug this iphone into this computer? What version OS, iOS and iTunes?

The question mark in the dock worries me. There is no good reason for a computer to forget the location of an app assuming that the computer hasn't gone through some recent, serious changes. Could be a sign of a failing drive...

FWIT, I went through a similar thing with my iP6 not long ago. Computer didn't recognize, was forced to reinstall everything, but when I was done, it was just like it was before - don't give up hope.

iPhoto no longer exists, but it did until Apple dropped it for Photos.
If your machine was old enough and updated during that transition time bla bla bla, you would have had this issue to contend with.

Not iPhone issue related.
iTunes update and iPhone update being of same generation may be.

As hal says, the question mark is not a good sign. Nor is having iPhoto (or Photos?) go missing. It is part of the OS install. The startup drive could have a problem.

You might verify the disk with disk utility and see whether there are significant disk errors. (or just restart and hold the option key after the chime. Select the recovery partition and then disk utility. Choose Repair disk.)

This could cure the problem, tell you the disk is done, or could find nothing wrong. We can hope for a cure.
