Thunderbolt 1 versus Thundebolt 2 - freeradical - 02-05-2017 From what I understand, version 1 has two 10 Gbps channels, while version 2 has one 20 Gbps channel, which is needed for 4K video. Are there any other benefits of version 2 if you're not doing 4k video? Re: Thunderbolt 1 versus Thundebolt 2 - hal - 02-05-2017 you mean aside from the doubled bandwidth? No, not that I can think of. Re: Thunderbolt 1 versus Thundebolt 2 - OWC Larry - 02-05-2017 other than difference in bandwidth, no other operational differences. Also - cables also the same, no difference. Re: Thunderbolt 1 versus Thundebolt 2 - Carnos Jax - 02-06-2017 I can't believe you guys, what a bunch of amateurs....of course there are some HUGE differences! Re: Thunderbolt 1 versus Thundebolt 2 - Robert M - 02-06-2017 Free, I think the key question isn't so much a question of benefits. For most people, I think it's a question of if you're actually going to use Thunderbolt at all. Right now, I use it for driving a 27" display hanging off my '13 Macbook Pro Retina 15". Occasionally, I might use a T-bolt to ethernet adapter and a t-bolt to firewire adapter. Beyond that, I don't use T-bolt at all and I suspect for my purposes the differences between T-bolt 1 and t-bolt 2 are irrelevant. My guess it'll be the same for a great many people. Robert |
