Internal HD for Powerbook G4 15" 1.67 Ghz - prof - 10-12-2006 I have a Powerbook G4 15" 1.67 Ghz with an 80 gig/5400 rpm HD. Can anyone recommend a 7200 rpm HD that's 100 Gig or more that I can safely use in this laptop without over heating concerns?? Also is installing the HD user installable or should I have an authorize Apple repair center do it?? TIA, Prof Re: Internal HD for Powerbook G4 15" 1.67 Ghz - jdc - 10-12-2006 it aint easy $170 http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?ID=8231&Item=HIT0A25015 why not just add an external 2.5" bus power FW drive? Re: Internal HD for Powerbook G4 15" 1.67 Ghz - mattkime - 10-12-2006 what do you have on that drive? you're paying a lot for 20GB of storage and a small speed increase. just get a full size external/ Re: Internal HD for Powerbook G4 15" 1.67 Ghz - Ken Sp. - 10-12-2006 Unlees you rea;;y need the speed while mobile-You could use an external drive Re: Internal HD for Powerbook G4 15" 1.67 Ghz - prof - 10-12-2006 Mobility is the key reason for the upgrade. I'm looking to travel light. That Hitachi Travelstar looks good. Thanks for the link! Re: Internal HD for Powerbook G4 15" 1.67 Ghz - jdc - 10-13-2006 probably cheaper at newegg external 2.5" drives dont need power when running off firewire -- still portable u should dump stuff Re: Internal HD for Powerbook G4 15" 1.67 Ghz - Gareth - 10-13-2006 2.5" 7200rpm drives max out at 100GB. If I were going to bother, I'd go up to 160GB, although they are 5400rpm, the denser, perpendicular recording supposedly makes them a little faster than your standard 5400rpm drive. I've done two hard drive swaps on 15" Alum. G4's and malled the DVD slot a little both times (a little less on the 2nd machine). There's a clasp that you have to unhook blindly behind the slot and it isn't easy. Re: Internal HD for Powerbook G4 15" 1.67 Ghz - BigGuynRusty - 10-13-2006 No heat problems with new drives. Maybe those drives that were built in the 1930's ran hot, but not anymore. BGnR |
