They are about 45 year old and very basic. My nephew works at a glass shop and already has the glass but is too busy to replace them. I figure it can't be that complicated. Just be careful and roll the new spline in. Is there anything to be aware of that might go wrong?

is the frame OK? I mean does it close properly, does it seal, does it work smooth? when I bought this place the aluminium windows and patio doors were about 25 year old and they didn't close properly so we just replaced them all. Much better thermal and sound insulation.

If these are like storm windows / triple tracks and many typical storm doors only thing I can think of is the channel spline being the right size. And maybe warm it up some so it pushes in easier.

You might consider a French door replacement. They make units that slide right in to the opening for standard slider.

I already have the glass, plus, I don't use it to enter or leave.
