A very wide range of Mac Mini configs at the refurb store right now - hal - 07-03-2017
At least a dozen configurations are up right now.
IMO, the sweet spot is the 2.6GHz i5 with 1.1TB Fusion drive - $759 refurb ($899 new) https://www.apple.com/shop/product/G0R70LL/A/Refurbished-Mac-Mini-26GHz-Dual-core-Intel-Core-i5

IMHO, 1TB Fusion drives are a bit of a rip-off. Not enough SSD to make a difference for anything much other than a fast boot unless you live your life in MS Office and never save any big docs.
...But Apple charges way too much for the 2TB version, so I can see why some people compromise.

Apparently, other people like that configuration, too, because it's out of stock now. :wink:

I'd pop for this one, it has i7 processor, 16Gb of RAM and 256Gb SSD.

The 1TB fusion drive has the same 128 GB flash drive as the 2 TB version, not the smaller 23 GB flash like the 2015 iMac.
If you needed additional fast storage the are tons of options via USB 3.

I've had that exact model for a little over a year and it really performs. I'm running four 28-inch 1080p screens with it.
I bought it on eBay for a little more than $400 from a company that was downsizing. The machine was only a couple of months old and was still under AppleCare.
They didn't get the worker's password before they riffed her, so I bought it "as is" (locked). It was a simple matter to wipe it and start from scratch.
What goes around, comes around, though. I got laid off a few months after that.

Thanks for the correction!
Had to check on that. Didn't make sense that a 1TB Fusion drive would be that different between the Mac mini and the iMac...
But it seems that the one advantage of Apple NOT updating the Mac mini since 2014 seems to be that they skipped the 2015 mods that hosed the 1TB Fusion drive!

Yeah, if I were to get one, it would have to be tricked out with 16 GB of RAM.
However, the i7 is only about 2-3% faster than the i5.
I don't even know why Apple makes the i7 model.
