Samsung 1TB 850 Evo SATA III SSD —> $300 ——— Should I wait for Black Friday? - steve... - 10-23-2017 These seem to be on sale at several places. B&H has free shipping and no tax. I want to get a 1TB SSD soon. Should I wait for a better deal? Re: Samsung 1TB 850 Evo SATA III SSD —> $300 ——— Should I wait for Black Friday? - jdc - 10-23-2017 1 TB! You need less stuff! =) Would you be upset if it was $20-40 less? Or "meh"? Re: Samsung 1TB 850 Evo SATA III SSD —> $300 ——— Should I wait for Black Friday? - Racer X - 10-23-2017 Good point. How much less will it likely be? I need 2 in the 250 or 500 GB size. I suspect there will be some deals. 500 for my Franken Mac Pro, and a 250ish for my laptop. Re: Samsung 1TB 850 Evo SATA III SSD —> $300 ——— Should I wait for Black Friday? - clay - 10-23-2017 i haven't been watching prices on the 1tb, but the 500gb has been hovering around $150 as a "good" everyday price. Usually slightly higher. So, I think $300 is probably a "good" price, but you might see it drop 5-10% during BF. So you might save a few bucks by waiting, but maybe not. Buy with a credit card that offers 90 day price protection (many do) and then submit a refund request for the difference when/if it drops in price. The trouble with BF deals is that they are rarely on the most-sought-after models... You might find a 1TB SSD for less, but will it be the Samsung 850 EVO? I wouldn't count on it.... Re: Samsung 1TB 850 Evo SATA III SSD —> $300 ——— Should I wait for Black Friday? - mikebw - 10-23-2017 My general rule is do not buy until you need it as prices tend to drop over time, but with SSDs we have seen how that is not always true. Another thing to consider is that, (if I recall correctly) larger capacities like the 1TB are faster than the smaller ones, so double the price of a 500GB not only gets you 2x capacity but also greater read/write speeds. Re: Samsung 1TB 850 Evo SATA III SSD —> $300 ——— Should I wait for Black Friday? - Filliam H. Muffman - 10-23-2017 The price is slowly trending down. Is it worth waiting until next March to save $40? I don't know how much longer they will be selling that model. It's coming up on 3 years old. Re: Samsung 1TB 850 Evo SATA III SSD —> $300 ——— Should I wait for Black Friday? - Filliam H. Muffman - 10-23-2017 Fry's has the 500 GB 850 EVO for $140 if you are on their Promo code email list. Samsung 500 gb 850 Evo $150 - $10 code. www.frys.com/product/8310197 Re: Samsung 1TB 850 Evo SATA III SSD —> $300 ——— Should I wait for Black Friday? - Robert M - 10-23-2017 Steve, It's less a question of waiting for a Black Friday deal and more a question, of how much will you save, is the savings worth the wait and do you need the drive now? I can't see a huge savings unless you luck upon a super deal. Even then, it may not be for this particular drive. It may be for a different model or one from a different brand entirely. In most cases, the brand isn't going to matter much. It's an SSD and for the vast majority of people, any SSD is going to make a huge difference in a machine, especially if said SSD is replacing a platter drive. That said, I like Samsung drives but wouldn't hesitate to look at !TB models from other brands. OWC, SanDisk, Mushkin (Newegg has a 1TB for $259 right now), Crucial, etc. All good brands. I doubt you'll go wrong with a good drive from any of them. I actually own drives from each and haven't had an issue at all with them. Some brands I won't consider. PNY is one of them. Might be a fine drive manufacturer but not a fan of how they handle tech support and product replacement under warranty. Others seem like no-name brands to me, i.e. Silicon Power. If you need the drive, pick one from one of the better brands and buy it. If the purchase isn't time sensitive, wait and see what kind of deals are around. Worst case, you pay about the same price that you'd pay right now. Nothing lost. Robert Re: Samsung 1TB 850 Evo SATA III SSD —> $300 ——— Should I wait for Black Friday? - anonymouse1 - 10-23-2017 FWIW, I had really bad luck with a Mushkin flash drive-it just dropped dead, with no warning. They were totally unresponsive when I complained about it. I won't buy Mushkin since then. |
