"Save As" failing to create new database objects in Access 2016 - freeradical - 02-27-2018

So, I create a new object in Microsoft Access 2016, a query. All is good.

Now, I try to "Save As" using that query as a template on which to base another query. I get a dialog box asking me what I want to save the new object as, but when I hit "OK", I do not get a new object appearing in the navigator pane.

Does anyone have any ideas? This process works fine when on a pure Windows machine, but I'm doing this in a virtual machine on my MBP.

My setup:

VMware Fusion 10

Windows 10

Hrm. It's not saving templates somewhere else by default, is it?

There is no location for user created templates in Access.

Are you using the Classic Menus? Is this a template that could be saved in an earlier format like 2007? Have you added a Trusted location in the Trust Center in Access Options?

After poking through the Access support pages, my first guess is a mismatch between the user credentials between when you installed Office/Access and your current user account in Fusion.

APFS file system issue?

I'm running Sierra, but that shouldn't matter anyhow since Access "sees" a Windows filesystem.

I shouldn't have used the word "template" since that's not what I'm really trying to do. I'm simply trying to use a query that I've created as the basis for another modified version of that query.

Anyhow, you gave me some things to maybe look at.

I was talking to a Windows IT guy, and he said that what I was trying to do is not possible in a virtual environment, and that perhaps what I'm trying to do might be possible under Boot Camp. This makes no sense to me at all.

I don't use Access, but some things just don't work in a virtual environment. Accessibility testing with the JAWS screen reader for example, is one reason why I occasionally need to use a physical PC.
