Are the Parkland students eligible for the Nobel Peace Prize? - Dennis S - 05-05-2018 I hope they are. Re: Are the Parkland students eligible for the Nobel Peace Prize? - Speedy - 05-05-2018 If they actually get something accomplished by changing laws which will not happen as long as the Russian funded NRA is in charge of Congress. Re: Are the Parkland students eligible for the Nobel Peace Prize? - Ombligo - 05-05-2018 Anyone can be nominated by those qualified to nominate, that includes members of national assemblies, governments, and international courts of law; university chancellors, professors of social science, history, philosophy, law and theology; leaders of peace research institutes and institutes of foreign affairs; previous Nobel Peace Prize Laureates; board members of organizations that have received the Nobel Peace Prize; present and past members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; and former advisers of the Norwegian Nobel Institute. I'd be a little surprised if they weren't nominated. Re: Are the Parkland students eligible for the Nobel Peace Prize? - Lemon Drop - 05-05-2018 Don't know about that, but they won't be getting the Nobel Prize for Literature, in fact nobody will because some jerk grabbed Princess Victoria's butt: https://slate.com/culture/2018/05/swedish-academy-postpones-2018-nobel-prize-for-literature-amid-sex-abuse-controversy.html I think it would be wonderful for them to get a nomination, whether laws change or not. To actually win though I think they'll need to go further into the process of bringing about change. Whether they win or not...short term that's not the point, but the fact that they are standing up for something important, and not backing down when the opposition kicks in. Which it has, big time. Re: Are the Parkland students eligible for the Nobel Peace Prize? - sekker - 05-05-2018 IF they can turn the table at all, the Nobel Peace Prize committee will consider them. Sometimes, the awarding of the Peace Prize is to help complete an important effort. I am deeply disturbed by my local politics. In St Paul, there are regular 20,000+ rallies for simple issues like universal background checks. And yet, the less than 2000 'pro gun' rally gets equal news and air time. I’m afraid 45 would steal it one dark nite, however , claiming the committee made a mistake.
