Have you heard of this "Black Cube" story? - pdq - 05-07-2018
Came out in the last couple of days or so. This recent summary from NPR:
An Israeli intelligence firm was hired last year to do "dirty ops" research on former Obama administration officials who worked on the Iran nuclear deal, according to reports in the U.K.'s Observer and The New Yorker.
Among other things, catfished the targets (and spouses!) to try to gin up some dirt (unsuccessfully, apparently).
Sources [said] that [aides to President] Trump... had contacted the firm just days after he visited Israel last May. "The idea was that people acting for Trump would discredit those who were pivotal in selling the deal, making it easier to pull out of it," a source told the newspaper.
Black Cube initially denied it - wasn't us, they said. Then as the reports got more specific, they said, "we don't comment on clients", and finally, "okay, it was us, but we were hired by a private company...somebody that profits from the sanctions on Iran". (all paraphrasing).
Black Cube, according to The New Yorker [is] the same company reportedly hired by Harvey Weinstein in 2016 to investigate the women and journalists he thought might come forward with allegations against him.
Somewhere between spy novels and "Burn After Reading" (if you've ever seen that Coen Bros gem).

Yep. Been reading the same stories. The country really is in a weird and crazy place right now.

I feel like I'm living in a story. But it's a serialized story and the author is being paid by the word, so there's a tont of extraneous material being cranked out which is wringing the life out of us.

Chapter 7 will be much more exciting. Right now, you'll have to settle for the build-up here and abroad as Chapter 6 ramps up to the awful Korea, Iran, gun massacre, migrant dragnet, autocratic boosting, democracy smashing, White House purging climax.
Then it'll be time for Chapter 7. I'm thinking early June.
