Installing Samsung 500Gb 860 EVO in Late 2012 MacBook Pro - Microman - 06-29-2018

I have an external SATA setup to connect and get the drive ready.

I am a little confused on whether to go to High Sierra , or stay with Sierra.

I am also wondering if I should just restore from a Time Machine backup, or start with a fresh install, but then the old TM backup would be useless. It would be more work, restoring all the apps the way I like, but it always seems to be a faster machine after a fresh install.

Then I will have to deal with moving my iTunes music onto the 500 gb, as well as PHOTOS data, and Jams Karaoke data, as now its all on an external drive.

Thoughts about what would you do, with new 500 to replace your 250?

slightly off topic, but be *very* careful with the SATA ribbon cable. The ones they shipped with are very fragile.

Late 2012 MacBook Pro? You do realize it is not a standard 2.5 inch drive?

btfc,

I suspect he's speaking about the MBP 13" non-retina. Technically a mid-2012 model.

I'm hoping that is the case.

Very simple switch, I've done it several times to several mid-2012's.

With what your describing, I think I would skip the 500gb and go straight to a 1TB SSD

Depends whether you want the new Apple file system or not.

Even with the CA 10% tax, that's tempting. Seriously tempting.

Must resist...
