tipping "counter " staff - Fritz - 07-01-2018 was at the local B&Js tonite staffed by the usual high school kids. Discussion came up about tipping. Do you or don't you? Re: tipping "counter " staff - Harooneneutics - 07-01-2018 Sadly, it usually comes down to whether I have any singles in my money clip or get some change back. When I add a tip to a credit card at the local pizza joint, I never know whether it goes to the workers or just to the bottom line of the business. (I don't care either way — I want the place to stay around.) Re: tipping "counter " staff - Don C - 07-01-2018 If there is a tip jar out, I'll put in change or a buck or two depending on the bill. Re: tipping "counter " staff - Carm - 07-01-2018 If I pickup to take home, usually no. If there is an issue and they tell me about it and fix it ASAP then yes I tip. (Or as mentioned there are some ones in my changes or wallet) For me pickup at counter is pickup. They are not providing any additional service. Getting a drink at a bar is different though. Or when the wife and I dine out, (I’m not going to lie) we are “needy” with our... extra sauces and more tea or other beverage refills so we usually tip between 15-20 percent. Re: tipping "counter " staff - RAMd®d - 07-01-2018 B&Js Ben & Jerry's? I sit at the counter, I tip. I don't do tip jars, ever. Re: tipping "counter " staff - AllGold - 07-01-2018 I so rarely go to those types of places, I couldn't really say. Funny story... I grew up in a small town where there was no such thing as getting food delivered. When we wanted prepared food at home, we drove to the restaurant, picked it up and drove back home. When I went to college, for the first year or two I had no idea you were supposed to tip the delivery person. No clue whatsoever. I only discovered it when a conversation on the subject of how much to tip a delivery driver came up. It never even occurred to me and I was shocked. Sorry to the delivery drivers I stiffed. Re: tipping "counter " staff - graylocks - 07-01-2018 never tipped counter service before i started working at Starbucks. now i do - sometimes. the few dollars a week i get is my walking around money so i know how it can help.
