True Swing - rich in distress - 09-30-2018

I’ve heard modern songs or artists that use the swing style as a gimmick, to appear mature and stuff...
Can’t think of an example, because I usually smirk and forget about it.
But anyway, here’s a good one instead:

Paul Anka swinging Spandau’s True.

Just sharing...

It could be a way to introduce other audiences to music they might not hear. I wonder if he has tried something like Master of Puppets in this style.

Re: True Swing - Kraniac - 09-30-2018

swing style, swing time, swing feel, swingset.

this is swing style of course..

swing feel..it's all over the place in rock and roll..The Beatles lived off of swing feels..lots of bands..cuz when it's done right it's where the meaty groove hits that causes you to move..Zeppelin swung like crazy with Bonzo at the wheel..he dragged the beat like nobody and mixed signatures...created an amazingly comfortable tension between the beat and the instruments.

I didn't think the example was bad at all..bit generic really but the choice of song worked pretty well lyrically...

Im not sure Sympathy for the Devil would cut it...lyrically

cool post, thanks

Haha I can almost hear it, Mastha!... (kicks) Mastha!...

Also, I hear Moon is a consummated jazz cat, so one never knows, haha...

That reminded me of Dave Lee Roth... pretty kewl.

Swing, yes. Paul Anka crooning...not so much.

Re: True Swing - Kraniac - 09-30-2018

Here's a cool video with Ringo Starr going through some of his ridiculously brilliant drum beats..

He talks a bit about the 'swing' factor..Dude is all over it..in his guts, it's pqrt of him and IS the core of the Beatles groove section

..the subtleties of how to swing properly are in the guts..it's a hard thing to learn and then 'do' but it's what separates the men from the boys.
