Anyone ever had a claim honored using a credit card's purchase protection or extended warranty plan? - datbeme - 02-27-2019

I can only imagine the dubious claims they have to wade through, but I've filed three solid and carefully documented claims in the 20+ years I've had a Visa Signature card, and all have been denied.

Most recently, I was searching for relief for an iPhone 7 that developed the microphone issue (will only make voice calls via bluetooth). The internet seems to think this issue is due to a software update. The phone was covered by AppleCare+ until November, and I believe Apple would have resolved it for me if the issue hadn't shown up a little too late. My fear was that the 1 yr warranty extension only applied to the 1 yr Apple Warranty and not the additional year covered by AC+, but I couldn't find anything definitive about that in their legalese. In any event, this is their response (which doesn't really make sense since it is no longer covered by AC+):

Thank you for submitting your completed Warranty Manager program claim application. Unfortunately, we are unable to honor your claim due to the following:
Your malfunctioning product is covered by another service plan or by an extended store warranty. wrote:

Not really worth my time trying to pursue this as it will only make me angrier. You think that guy in the 1980s filed a successful claim after his kid fed oatmeal into his brand new VCR? I bet not.

I filed two claims over the years and both were paid out without any discussion. I did not have Apple Care, both issues occurred in the second year of ownership. One was an optical drive on a G3 iBook, the other was a trackpad on a MBP.

Several years ago I had a claim that I filed for a standalone DVD-ROM burner that died just a few months past the factory warranty and after locating and sending in the required documentation the claim was paid out without any problems or additional hassles.

Filed a credit card warranty claim not too long ago on my wife's Oster hair dryer. It had a two year warranty, and died near the end of it's third year. A bit of paperwork, but no trouble getting the claim. But it was under $30.

The last time I checked with credit card companies, AppleCare was considered a factory warranty, and the credit card warranties stacked on top of it. I haven't specifically looked at AppleCare+ on iPhones, but have no reason to think it would be handled differently.

From the response you got it sounds like either they thought AppleCare+ was still in effect, or that Apple had an extended warranty for that particular issue. Might be worth asking for a clarification.

If you told the credit card warrantors that the issue arose before AppleCare+ ended, then I can see them saying you should have taken it to Apple.

Good luck.

The repair starts at $42 on the eBay.

I suggested it to a friend and she just ended up getting a new phone because she couldn’t live without her phone.
Company is in California. https://www.ebay.com/itm/iPhone-7-iPhone-7-Plus-Audio-IC-No-Mic-Speaker-Sound-Slow-Boot-Repair-Service/372258784481?hash=item56ac5a44e1:g:SuQAAOSwOgRbnJpc

My son filed a claim when an Apple 24" Cinema Display he bought failed past the end of the warranty. Apple would have replaced the screen for about $600 on one he bought as a refurb for $699. Credit had him file the paperwork, had him take it the repair place they specified, and after a couple months he got a check for the original purchase price.

I just tried using this for the first time. I got denied because the manufacturers warranty was still in effect ... but they aren't honoring it, so I'm screwed.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I have it on my calendar.

just make sure you say it was fixed and broke again.

And you should disclose who this manufacturer is so we avoid them.
