Air Force crew made an odd stop on a routine trip: Trump’s Scottish resort - Speedy - 09-07-2019 Now the layover is part of a broader House inquiry into military spending at and around the Trump property. https://www.politico.com/story/2019/09/06/air-force-trump-scottish-retreat-1484337 In early Spring of this year, an Air National Guard crew made a routine trip from the U.S. to Kuwait to deliver supplies. What wasn’t routine was where the crew stopped along the way: President Donald Trump’s Turnberry resort, about 50 miles outside Glasgow, Scotland. Since April, the House Oversight Committee has been investigating why the crew on the C-17 military transport plane made the unusual stay — both en route to the Middle East and on the way back — at the luxury waterside resort, according to several people familiar with the incident. But they have yet to receive any answers from the Pentagon. The inquiry is part of a broader, previously unreported probe into U.S. military expenditures at and around the Trump property in Scotland. According to a letter the panel sent to the Pentagon in June, the military has spent $11 million on fuel at the Prestwick Airport — the closest airport to Trump Turnberry — since October 2017, fuel that would be cheaper if purchased at a U.S. military base. The letter also cites a Guardian report that the airport provided cut-rate rooms and free rounds of golf at Turnberry for U.S. military members. Taken together, the incidents raise the possibility that the military has helped keep Trump’s Turnberry resort afloat — the property lost $4.5 million in 2017, but revenue went up $3 million in 2018. Apparently, answers are optional with this inquiry. Re: Air Force crew made an odd stop on a routine trip: Trump’s Scottish resort - pdq - 09-08-2019 Pentagon has now responded. Yup, they stayed at the President's resort. But there's nothing unusual about that - no sir. :RollingEyesSmiley5: See, Turnberry has been...umm...losing money for awhile: Although grand, gorgeous and one of the world’s top golf courses, Turnberry hasn’t been a reliably profitable business for decades... Turnberry needs more guests. The Air Force has to refuel somewhere. It's a win-win, huh? Besides, those Trump portraits need to be paid for: He hung an oil painting of himself in the lobby. The restaurant offers Trump-branded wines at steeper prices than better European vintages on the menu, and he has installed two gigantic, out-of-context Romanesque fountains adorned with lions on the grounds. An 8-foot-by-10-foot chandelier hangs in the hotel’s main stairwell, and Trump’s contractor explained in a promotional video that the reason the Trump team liked it was because it was made by a guy “in New Jersey” who “designed and built the world record-largest chandelier.” It boggles the mind. What faux scandal will the GOP ever be able to come up with to tar future Dems that Trump won't have already done for real? I am shocked, SHOCKED that a Trump business isn't profitable! In future years, folks will just shake their heads in disbelief when they read that a failed New York City developer and reality-TV star who lived in a gold-plated penthouse in Manhattan was somehow perceived by down-on-their-luck heartlanders as “One of us”.
