I love chicken, I love pork... - RAMd®d - 09-18-2019 But mixed together, masquerading as bologna— not so much. My local Safeway had a buy 1 get 50% off deal on Oscar Mayer bologna. There were three types– turkey, chicken-porks There was only one package of the beef, so I thought I'd try one package of the chicken-pork. Big mistake. It has a really weird texture, and zero taste. I had to add cheese, salt, and pepper, to make it tolerable. So, lesson learned. No need to save 50% at the cost of adding 50% to my typical purchase, when I'm not going to enjoy it. In deference to my husband the heart patient I bought the turkey kind and it too has no flavor and an odd consistency. When one has a craving, one needs to go for the real thing. It wasn't even the fancy schmancy "name-brand" Oscar Mayer bologna. It was some cheapo generic brand like White Rose or something. On the days when the fridge was especially empty, we didn't have bologna and just had ketchup on white bread. In a couple of hours, you have a great snack while waiting on the main course of smokey goodness. |
