Help Selecting RGB LED Light Strip for Family Room Shelves - Microman - 10-11-2019 I have 110 supplied to the bottom of a 5 shelf on the right of the Fireplace, and a wire running to the left side for the right side 5 shelves. I want to put some RGB strip lights 10 shelfs, 4 foot each, and I want to be able to control then with Alexa. Complete control over Color and Intensity etc.. And I would need to be able to solder at points to make 4 foot sections then wire up to the next shelf. Doing the whole thing left and right and series. I know this will mean the purchase of a complete system that works together, and include their 12 volt power supply. There are so many to choose. Anyone ever deal with this topic and have a suggestion?> Re: Help Selecting RGB LED Light Strip for Family Room Shelves - Cary - 10-11-2019 I bought a set-up from these guys: Inspired LED They offer free design services, and was reasonable. I bought a transformer (dimmable), ran wires to each shelf, and stuck LED strips to the bottom of each shelf. Controlled by a wall dimmer. Re: Help Selecting RGB LED Light Strip for Family Room Shelves - Ombligo - 10-11-2019 The Alexa part is easy if all you want is on/off - just put a smartplug at the outlet. That is all I did with mine and it works fine for my need. While not released yet, T-Link is supposed to have a smart LED strip out before the end of the year. https://www.kasasmart.com/us/products/smart-lighting/kasa-smart-led-light-strip-kl430 Re: Help Selecting RGB LED Light Strip for Family Room Shelves - pdq - 10-11-2019 I’ve worked a fair amount with single-color (ie white) LED light tapes which are easy enough to solder together, but looking at the RGB products, it looks like they have four conductors and you’d probably do better with the solderless connection products they have now. The one problem I see is finding long enough premade connectors to work between the strips on the several shelves, so you should probably look at a connection kit like this. I think they have instructions on Youtube, and viewing a couple of such videos would give you an idea what you’re in for. In terms of the light strip itself, I would just get a well-rated one from Amazon (where returns are easy if you’re dissatisfied or run into trouble) that is NON-waterproof. For a project like yours, the “waterproof” ones would be a pain, since they have a thick silicone layer on top of the strip that you’ll need to peel/carve off at every junction you make - for your indoor project, you’d be happier with a bare strip, I think. Someone already mentioned plugging the whole thing into an Alexa-controlled 110 outlet, but I don’t know how you’d be able to change the color with Alexa. |
