About that Pelosi/Trump photo, and of the meeting - deckeda - 10-18-2019

Here's one account: https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/pelosi-recalls-clash-with-trump-says-she-was-probably-telling-him-that-all-roads-lead-to-putin/2019/10/17/fdbde8d2-f0f2-11e9-8693-f487e46784aa_story.html

Except for one noted comment from Liz Cheney correcting Trump, the Republicans quoted all lamented that they all couldn't just come together and work something out.

The "something out" was the decisive House rebuke of the President an hour earlier, who chose to defend and insult his Syria decision. Where was the Republican criticism of Trump during the meeting? It was busy mischaracterizing the Democrats' behavior.

got off to a poor start when Trump — who had invited the bipartisan group of lawmakers to the White House — appeared to suggest that it was Democrats who had wanted the meeting.
Such a putz. Everyone's an idiot, in his opinion:

At one point, in an apparent reference to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, he referred to some of the Kurds as being communists and suggested that “you Democrats would like that,” according to Schumer.

Such a professional. Little wonder last night in Dallas he claimed again that Democrats hate America.

Trump also boasted that his timeline for capturing the Islamic State was much faster than what Mattis predicted, falsely claiming, “I captured them in one month.” At another point, according to Schumer and two other officials, Trump lambasted his predecessor, Barack Obama, for his inability to prevent mayhem in Syria.

Throughout, Schumer and Pelosi pressed Trump on his strategy for the region, whether his plan involved relying on the Turkish and Syrian regimes to secure Islamic State fighters who could pose a threat to the U.S. homeland. Trump said his “plan is to keep the American people safe.”

Pelosi retorted, “That’s not a plan. That’s a goal.”

**************************

Trump defended his Oct. 6 phone call with Erdogan by saying that he was told, “we’re going to go in whether you want it or not.” In addition to Schumer's obvious criticism of that, this Trump claim tracks with what Romney suggested from the Senate floor yesterday, that Trump got rolled by Erdogan and easily acquiesced to Turkey's bluff. "Turkey!?" --Romney, marking the obvious absurdity of an American president rolling over for effing Turkey.

Romney called for hearings about it next week. McConnell, who said the Congressional rebuke (despite his Kentucky colleague Paul strongly and weirdly admonishing the rebuke ... ) "didn't go far enough" might do just that?

What Pelosi didn't witness:

Schumer stayed behind a few minutes longer to press Trump and Esper on security concerns. At that point, according to Schumer and two other officials familiar with the remarks, Trump repeatedly played down the threat posed by the released Islamic State fighters, saying the United States did not need to worry about “terrorists 7,000 miles away.”

“I said, ‘We New Yorkers, Mr. President, know how bad terrorism can be — a small group of people from half a globe away can do huge damage,’ ” Schumer recalled.

Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.), the House Republican Conference chair, also spoke up to remind Trump that the terrorists who killed nearly 3,000 Americans in the 9/11 terrorist attacks “came from 7,000 miles away.”

None of the Republicans really seem to agree with the alt.White House’s spin on the meeting.
