The cynics at Staten Island - deckeda - 10-20-2019

A reporter talked to people at different stages of the impeachment inquiry since it began.

I found this to be a rather frightening account of people barely engaged to stay informed, yet not removed enough from politics to honestly admit that they aren’t following closely to form opinions they could stick with.

It comes off as the kind of place where issues matter but not any of methods required to improve them. Are they Democrat or Republican? Seems to depend on what day of the week it is. Forget about having “the courage of their convictions.”

According to that article, yes surely. Perhaps that explains the disarray and cluelessness exampled in the text. And no, I’m not worried “exampled” might a made up word. Smile

The problem, as I see it, is that uniformed, disengaged people used to ignore politics and stay home on election day. They were big champions of "They're all alike, so who cares?"

First we had Limbaugh, who elevated the right-wing radio talk show, which had always existed, out of the shadows and into the mainstream. Then along came FOX, which gave political reportage a National Enquirer feel, which caught the uncaring people's attention because it was simple and easy to grasp. Suddenly all the dumbos were pundits in their own minds. And out they went to the voting booths to exercise their rights, something they had previously not bothered to do. Ah, the good old days.
