I posted this last night and it went to $699 in the morning. It is once again at $499 and hopefully will stay that way for anyone considering one. All details in the link.

For it's day it was pretty good and now is still a solid value depending on your needs. It was replaced by the 20D and subsequently the 30D. It is 3 fps shooting. It has a nice sized grip and optional vertical grip/shutter. I would say it is a camera for those wanting a solid DSLR with good resolution but don't like the smaller size of the rebel XT. Only catch is that it might not take the smaller ef-s lenses by Canon. Now aps-c lenses such as sigma's 18-200 may be a different story all together. Otherwise it is a solid value for the $.

If you use the EF lenses, there is no issue.

I don't think the 10D for $499 is a particularly great steal. Its a far inferior camera to the 20D, which is albiet more costly still, and but the XTi is similar price and in comparison to the XTi, the 10D's FPS is the same, pixel count much lower, noise somewhat higher, and then there's the lame CRW file format and jpegs not written as separate files with RAW+JPEG. I sure wouldn't bother with it.

Granted, with that being said there are some people for which the XT is a tad too small. I like the XT or Xti size but it is not for everyone, especially the larger pawed. Also the sturdier build may also be more appealing to some. This is for Canon users with existing lenses that want ot get in for that $499 range. There are also other alternatives form other companies if you want more recent chip and electronics.
My advice for anyone wanting to shoot ISO 1600 and 3200 for serious or client use is to get a 20D or 30D but those start at $825 for refurb and up.

I think smaller is better in this area, personally.
