F/U on buying a used/open box iPhone - AllGold - 01-31-2020 Original thread: http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,2437204,2437204#msg-2437204 I'm still looking. It's rough out there. I can walk into an Apple Store and buy a new XR for $600 or a new 11 for $700. I thought I could find a used model for significantly less, like no more than 60% of the new price, but it's tough to find one for that price that actually works and can be activated. I mostly only see "for parts only" in that price range. Or worse, they are listed on ebay as used or open box but when I ask for the IMEI it turns out they can't be activated. Oh, well. I'm in no hurry because my 6s works ok. I just thought it might be time to upgrade. Re: F/U on buying a used/open box iPhone - Rolando - 01-31-2020 What your price range. A Xr for $600 is a great phone. I just bought one for my wife, replacing her 6s+. I replaced my 6s with an 11 for $700. I don't like the 7, but here is a good price: https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/clearance Apple has a refurb X as well https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/iphone Apple's tend to keep their value pretty well, unlike Android phones. Re: F/U on buying a used/open box iPhone - jdc - 01-31-2020 Yeah, Id prob pony up the extra for an Xr or 11. maybe a couple bills more to start -- but very, very, very nice phones with excellent everything that should last many many years (if you arent hard on them). really fast, great battery, screen, & camera. If they made a small SE sized XR -- imho, THAT would sell like crazy. They are so effing focused on price, ugh. Re: F/U on buying a used/open box iPhone - AllGold - 01-31-2020 I was hoping to get an XR for about $300 but that's probably not going to happen. The 11, being the newest and shiniest, I didn't really expect that much of a discount. But I see a lot of them listed for very close to the new price (unless they're broken or blacklisted). If I were going to pay that much then I'd get it directly from Apple. Also, at new prices, for $100 more, I'd go with the 11. But like I said, I'm in no hurry, so I'll keep looking for a good deal. Re: F/U on buying a used/open box iPhone - jdc - 01-31-2020 XR is barely over a year old, $300 seems (in my best bob Uecker) juuuusust a bit outside... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jdv2Wp9MzY0 Re: F/U on buying a used/open box iPhone - AllGold - 01-31-2020 jdc wrote: LOL I forget that Apple lowered the price on the Xr after they introduced the 11. And I've never been one to keep on up on new iPhone models so I didn't realize it was so recent. Edit: Of course I saw a Xr on ebay buy-it-now for $160--then the seller offered it to me for $145. I was briefly tempted even though it was far too good to be true. Re: F/U on buying a used/open box iPhone - 3d - 01-31-2020 Classic case of analysis paralysis. Re: F/U on buying a used/open box iPhone - anonymouse1 - 01-31-2020 Well, in theory I have a 256GB ATT iPhone 8 Plus arriving this afternoon ($240 on eBay). Will update y'all on how it lives up to the description. I'm hoping! Re: F/U on buying a used/open box iPhone - Bernie - 01-31-2020 iPhone 7 unlocked 128 arrived this morning by FedEx. $248.46 About an hour to transfer from 6 to 7. Inserted AT&T Sim and called my Wife. Phone is for daughter and so far so good. My SE is still ticking too. P.S.: I got the upgrade bug from all the commercials from the wireless providers telling me they'd give me a free iPhone 11 if I switched. But the commercials don't say they'll charge you an arm and a leg for service for that "free" (or cheap) phone. |
