I just bought 8 from Ikea, on the recommendation of folks here who said that those are equivalent to Eneloops. $6.99 per four pack.

Let me get this straight....
Regular Eneloop AA = 2000mAh X 2100 cycles = 4.2M mAh total lifetime output
vs.
Eneloop Pro AA = 2550mAh X 500 cycles = 1.275M mAh total lifetime output
Regular Eneloop gets almost 3.3X the usable life. w/ over 78% the individual cycle capacity for slightly less than half the price of the Pro model. So what are the compelling uses for peeps buying the Eneloop Pro? I've used the Regular Eneloops in cameras, digital recorders, blood pressure monitors, flashlights, laser pointers, toys, etc., and their performance has been way better than standard alkaline batteries and/or other rechargeables; such that switching to the Pro model for over six and a half times the effective cost, doesn't seem cost effective.

I think the point is if you need more power, you can use those pro to get 25% more power per charge, like when you go camping, or have a power hungry device like a digital camera.
Even at 500x, those are still way, way cheaper than regular alkaline.
Also, who really uses those 500 or 2100 cycles? at one cycle per week, that would be 10 years and 40 year respectively. Those cells will be dead long before that due to over discharging. don't let cells drop much below 0.9V, also avoid going negative... it can happen if you mix cells.

That's going to depend on the device they're used in.
And the cycles get shorter and short throughout the life of the cell.
500 cycles?
Doable.
2100, may not, unless one is Capt. Frugal.
