Anybody have a 2018 Mac Mini? - anonymouse1 - 02-01-2020
I’m eyeing one of these for the future, and wondering How people are liking them. I’m thinking either an I5 or I7 CPU, but the minimum SSD with an NVMA thunderbolt external. And I could always upgrade the RAM on my own later.

3.2 i7, 16G, 128G PCIe
It's pretty zippy, compared to my 2012's 2.7 i7, 12G, 200G SSD.
Still, it's a little early as I haven't moved much over to it.
I still have mostly USB-A stuff so appropriate dongles are used.
I got the minimum PCIe as I want to run an 1T PCIe and big spinner.
The 16G is because I don't know if or when I'd get around to taking it to 32G.
That's the plan, but we'll see.

I'm happy with i7, 8, 256. Got the i7 for pro audio applications, will probably get the i5 for the SO. Mine replaced a 2018 MBP 6 core i7 in the home studio. Also kept the laptop for portable use. Will add the i5 mini as a desktop supplement to SO's 2018 MBP 13 i5. I've got a 4 port passive usb A hub for legacy usb 2 stuff, and got the 10 port powered anker usb A hub for usb 3 drives.
If you've got the money, nice kit for the house. I should add that I just needed the mini, lots of monitors, mice, and keyboards around the place.

I love mine. One of the best buys I've made, aside from buying a block of APPL in 2004.

3Ghz i5 with16GB RAM and 1TB SSD. Probably overkill for my processing needs and underkill for ports. I'm using the 4 port hubs on my Dell UltraSharps to feeds all the peripherals.
There was a big writeup on Macintouch about where each configuration performed. You might want to dig that up.

Same here, except I bought AAPL in 99, just wish the wife would have agreed to buy as much as I wanted to.

I've had one for over a year now
3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5
16GB RAM
256GB SSD
It was a custom order from Apple
I love it...except for the frustrating Bluetooth issues. There's a huge thread over at MacRumors (in which I've participated too) that details the problems:

The gist is that many people (myself included) have reported frequent, annoying bluetooth dropout issues - BT peripherals disconnecting and reconnecting, working better the closer they are to the mini and worse if you move them further away, interference from peripherals plugged into the USB A ports, etc.
People have resorted to wired accessories (that includes me - pulled out my old wired Magic keyboard with number pad), plugging a long, shielded USB A cable into the USB A port and then a hub into that and peripherals into the hub, disabling internal BT and buying an external BT dongle and plugging that into an extension cable, resorting to powered hubs, etc.
It's been maddening to try and troubleshoot the issues and so I finally threw in the towel and started using my wired keyboard and wireless Magic Trackpad - that solved all my problems. But before doing that I tried many of the solutions with varying luck, but nothing just worked without losing connection at some point again.
I'm not saying that everyone has these issues, but just be aware (and check out that thread)
Again, I love the mini save for the BT problem

pinkoos- wow, terrible design on Apple’s part! I’ve used minis since a G4. Bluetooth worked fine for those.
Is WiFi still ok, or is that connection also flaky?
