The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

The End Is Not in Sight (The Cowboy Tune)
The Amazing Rhythm Aces

Guess I knew it all along
I'd have to come back home
'Cause this living on the road
Only makes me tired and sore
Like a bird without a nest
Like a stranger in the night
[b]And my soul cries out for rest
And the end is not in sight

Tastes like sweet magnolia wine
Honey dripping from your mouth
And that sweet little gal of mine
She's the finest in the south
Now the day's are gettin' longer
And the nights are gettin' colder
I just want to come back home
Lay my head down on your shoulder

Guess I knew it all along
I'd have to come back home
'Cause this living on the road
Only makes me tired and sore
Like a bird without a nest
Like a stranger in the night
[b]And my soul cries out for rest
And the end is not in sight

So I'm in New York City visiting my friend Andrew who is a professional comedian and he takes me to a very nice restaurant for a late breakfast. The restaurant is located way up in one of the skyscrapers there and features seating on a patio/balcony with a spectacular view of the city. After we eat Andrew says he has a meeting he has to get to and we agree to meet up later that evening. As he walks away I see Andrew answer his phone just as he goes inside. I turn my head the other direction to take in the view and a few moments later a guy on his phone about Andrew's size, build, and coloring and dressed similarly sits down beside me and ends his call. Assuming this guy is my friend and that the call was a notification that his meeting had been cancelled, I start feeding him lines to get him riffing on a bit I know he's working on about how New Yorkers are only truly happy when they're miserable and have something to complain about. Unfortunately the reflection of the sun off a building's roof was in my eyes when he sat down and it turns out the guy sitting next to me is NOT Andrew, but he chuckles and rises to the bait nonetheless, so disaster narrowly avoided there. We wind up having a nice conversation about New York, travel in general, etc. when a very short blond guy who looks vaguely familiar to me but who I can't place sits down with us and joins in the conversation. After a while guy-who-wasn't-Andrew excuses himself and Blond Guy moves closer, then it hits me where I know him from: I'd seen him in one of my Mom's People magazines and he was one of the stars of a drama series set in pilgrim times on a network I don't get and I didn't recognize him right off because I'd only seen pictures of him in costume. We get up to leave at the same time and as we're walking out he says "This might seem kind of forward, but I want to take you gambling with me" to which I replied "Buddy, you can take me anywhere you like". He put his arm around my waist...

And then my loud-mouthed neighbor woke me up at exactly that moment by running his loud mouth WHILE STANDING RIGHT OUTSIDE MY BEDROOM WINDOW! Dad-gummit, I was not only enjoying a nice vacation in New York City but I was also on the fast track with a cute blond until Shouty McMotormouth had to go and do his "Town Crier" impression three feet from my bed this morning and wake me out of all of that.

I sincerely hope I get to be present when good ol' Karma bites Shouty McMotormouth in the butt for that one.

Anyway, that's how I woke up this mornin'.

You Were On My Mind

We Five

When I woke up this morning
You were on my mind
And you were on my mind
I got troubles, whoa-oh
I got worries, whoa-oh
I got wounds to bind
So I went to the corner
Just to ease my pains
Yeah, just to ease my pains
I got troubles, whoa-oh
I got worries, whoa-oh
I came home again
When I woke up this morning
You were on my mi-i-i-ind and
You were on my mind
I got troubles, whoa-oh
I got worries, whoa-oh
I got wounds to bind
And I got a feelin'
Down in my sho-oo-oo-oes, said
Way down in my sho-oo-oes…

I'll see your We Five and raise you a Herman's Hermits:

I'm Into Something Good- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydfG6t6VL8s

Woke up this morning feelin' fine
There's something special on my mind
Last night I met a new girl in the neighborhood, whoa yeah
Something tells me I'm into something good
(Something tells me I'm into something)

She's the kind of girl who's not too shy
And I can tell I'm her kind of guy
She danced close to me like I hoped she would
(She danced with me like I hoped she would)
Something tells me I'm into something good
(Something tells me I'm into something)

We only danced for a minute or two
But then she stuck close to me the whole night through
Can I be fallin' in love?
(She's everything I've been dreamin' of)
She's everything I've been dreamin' of

I walked her home and she held my hand
I knew it couldn't be just a one-night stand
So I asked to see her next week and she told me I could
(I asked to see her and she told me I could)
Something tells me I'm into something good
(Something tells me I'm into something)
(Something tells me I'm into something, ahhh)

I walked her home and she held my hand
I knew it couldn't be just a one-night stand
So I asked to see her next week and she told me I could
(I asked to see her and she told me I could)
Something tells me I'm into something good
(Something tells me I'm into something)
Something tells me I'm into something good
(Something tells me I'm into something)
To something good, oh yeah, something good
(Something tells me I'm into something)
To something good, something good, something good

some of you should go for a walk, even if it's just to the kitch and back
