Around day 4-6 it itches like crazy.

Time... ain't nothing for it but letting it grow for a while.
For me, it took three weeks from my last shave before I realized it didn't itch any more.

Now, it's rather comfortable, being able to tug at my beard, or twirl a bit of beard as I think. Makes up for not having hair on top to run my fingers through any more.
Come to think of it, though... I'm gonna need a trim this weekend. It's getting a little scruffy around the edges.

my cat is always licking my face, and my beard doesn't itch at all. Remember, cats are so soft because they are covered by dry cat spit. Get a cat!

You're creating a new little ecosystem on your face.

Give it a few days.

You can ease it a little by using hair conditioner on your beard in the shower to soften it and some moisturizing hand lotion after a shower to keep your skin from drying out as it adapts to the new environment, but lay off the skin conditioner before the 2-week mark or it'll get a little gross.

This might not be the best time to embark on something that will cause you to involuntarily scratch an itch.
