NiMh battery electrolytes leaking in old units - mrbigstuff - 04-10-2020
I just came across a cache of tossed aside NiMh AA batteries, and some of them have pretty noticeable crusting. I'm not planning to use the worst ones, but is there a way to clean those that are not bad?
Also, most environmentally safe disposal methods?

Not sure how to clean NiMH electrolyte, but when I have Alkaline cells leaking in various devices, I clean with white vinegar. That may also work in those NiMH cells.
regarding usage; I believe they have high internal resistance now and cannot be charged. You are probably wasting your time. And if they do take a charge, they will probably self discharge too fast to be of any practical use to you.
regarding disposal: I know they are less harmful than NiCd, but I would still try to dispose of properly. I think there is a web site about NiMH recycling, if I find the link I will post.

On some batteries they have this RBRC in a circle logo and a Phone number. 1-800-822-8837

My local Best Buy has a receptacle for old batteries of any sort. Batteries need to be put into individual plastic baggies.
