If there is a big second wave, can we go bank into lockdown again? - Dennis S - 05-16-2020

I don't think so. In addition to this being largely a stupid country, it is largely a spoiled country.

States like California, NY etc will lock it down if the infection rates and body counts bloom enough.

I don't think so, either. It will just make it more difficult for those of us that have decided to wait on going to the beach and to restaurants just yet. It's a new world, people.

You're not going to "fix" the economy with an impactful and persistent Pandemic occurring. We have to STOP the Pandemic. Period. By not stopping the virus all we're doing is prolonging a terrible and declining economy.

People either want this country to function properly or they don't. Because those are the two options.

As long as people are afraid of the virus, they will avoid participating in normal activities. That means failure. This means our country has to instill trust with massive testing, knowing the spread and separating people from one another until it's squashed. This could happen in a matter of months if we comply.

But a certain element of people in this country are too stupid to comply. One day, this is going to happen. Either now, or in January. Stacked up on top of a burned-out economy and who knows how many bodies.

In case you want to know what San Francisco's idiots look like, here they are yesterday in the Marina District.

they can demand we go into a lockdown, but unless martial law is declared, they have no legal authority to enforce it.

Now, common sense, and the desire to not kill our friends, neighbors and relatives is certainly a good reason, but we aren't REQUIRED to do it. Read your state's and the US Constitution.

That being said, I am hunkered down at home because I am not an A-hole and don't want to risk my, or anyone else's lives unless REALLY REALLY necessary.

I’ve been following this Texas Tribune website. Texas’ new cases have been going up sharply - today had 1801 new cases reported, 300+ more than the previous highest day. While some of this is due to increased testing, their Covid deaths have also been increasing, with Thursday and Friday being the first two days with over 50 deaths.

But their lieutenant governor says that (unspecified) people would rather die than shutdown*, sooooo...

* He said that March 23, and reiterated it April 21st, both times to Fox News. He has been getting his wish more and more:
