24" monitors, redux - PeterB - 09-06-2020 Hi everyone, Circling back to this issue after I originally posted about it: http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,2524931,2524931#msg-2524931 What I realized after I originally posted this is that I really want to stick with the 16:10 (1920 x 1200) resolution -- I just really like having the extra screen real estate. That would seem to limit my options to either Dell, Asus, or maybe BenQ ... have been looking at the old Dells, but there's one model (U2415) that apparently won't do this resolution via HDMI, another model (U2412) that doesn't have HDMI, and most of the newer Dells do the more traditional 16:9 ratio. So ... anyone know about either the Dell U2410's (I have a U2408 now, which I'm very happy with), or the Asus PA248QV ? (The latter is claimed to have the same LCD panel as the U2415.) Re: 24" monitors, redux - jdc - 09-06-2020 It’s 120 pixels. Re: 24" monitors, redux - sekker - 09-06-2020 jdc wrote: But important screen real estate sometimes... Re: 24" monitors, redux - jdc - 09-06-2020 Sure. I get it. As the previous owner of a 2410. But maybe not at the sacrifice of an 11 year old monitor. And as a secondary screen. Re: 24" monitors, redux - Rolando - 09-07-2020 Its 120 rows of pixels 1920 x 120 = 230,400 pixels That's more than a VGA monitor... Re: 24" monitors, redux - Altered Horizons - 09-07-2020 I have a Dell U2415 connected to a NUC8 running Sierra, using an HDMI - HDMI cable and I’m getting 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz. I used to have it connected to a 2009 MBP running Snow Leopard using a mDP - HDMI cable and got 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz. Verified via the on screen display and About this Mac / Display Prefs. My sister also has the U2415, connected to a 2015 MBP running High Sierra via an HDMI - HDMI cable and gets 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz. Yet, the User Guide would seems to indicate that 1920 x 1080 would be the max for HDMI. A quick net search didn’t turn up any complaints about only getting 1920 x 1080 via HDMI. So, I chose to believe the monitor & macOS rather than the User Guide. Re: 24" monitors, redux - jdc - 09-07-2020 PeterB wrote: ahhh, then definitely new. My first "real" monitor was a Sony GDM FW900 -- 24" CRT @ 1920 x 1200 -- later moved to a Dell 2408, then 2410 with my G5s. Switched to iMacs in 2007, still 1980 X 1200. ![]() Re: 24" monitors, redux - PeterB - 09-07-2020 Altered Horizons wrote: Interesting -- there's someone in the Amazon comments for the U2415 saying that you can do 1900 x 1200, or HDMI, but NOT both ... so is what they are saying incorrect? Re: 24" monitors, redux - Altered Horizons - 09-07-2020 PeterB wrote: From my experience they are incorrect. I see another Amazon comment further down: " The screen looks beautiful at 1920x1200 via HDMI, which works perfectly and without me setting anything differently in Windows, so do not believe the negative review on here claiming you can only do 1080p" |
