We officially pulled the plug on Christmas this year - DinerDave - 12-13-2020 Daughter can't quarantine like her job and Vermont require, as they sold their house (on the market for 4 days, but that's a different story) and the 3 room 3rd floor apartment they rented until they can find another house does not allow her and hubby to quarantine adequately. Son in law recently started a new job, and vaca won't kick in until next month. Son is in the hot spot of Virginia, just over the line from DC, and is working from his apartment. Tentative plans are now to have "Christmas in June at the DinerDave Homestead. Dave Re: We officially pulled the plug on Christmas this year - space-time - 12-13-2020 excellent. We all need to sacrifice to keep this pandemic under control. we cancelled thanksgiving this year. We don't have family here in USA, so we used to celebrate with some Friends. They do have family, but they would rather spend Thanksgiving with us (that's another story). They asked if we want to do the traditional Thanksgiving that we have been doing for the past 12 years and I said hell no. They are teachers so they are at high risk of picking up something from school. She just got pregnant in September, after trying really, really hard to get pregnant (countless artificial insemination and in vitro procedures). She lost one pregnancy a year earlier. Their daughter, 4 YO, (also very difficult to conceive) goes to some daycare, so she could also pick something up from there. So to protect us, and also to protect them, we did NOT do Thanksgiving this year. Now MIL is visiting (she had to, otherwise she would lose her Green card if she was out of US more than a year) and we keep her confined to one annex of the house. If she need to come out, MASK ON. Re: We officially pulled the plug on Christmas this year - Acer - 12-13-2020 We stayed home for Thanksgiving from my in-laws side, and we just made the call to stay home for Christmas from my side. New Years, which we host for local friends, is most likely a bust as well. Maybe by my half-birthday, which is my daughter's actual birthday, in July, we can celebrate all three/four Re: We officially pulled the plug on Christmas this year - August West - 12-13-2020 TGiving & Xmas no gos here too. Re: We officially pulled the plug on Christmas this year - Numo - 12-13-2020 As COVID was ramping up this fall, we had a family conference call to talk about the holidays. Since we knew the situation was just going to get worse, we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving together and skip Christmas. We met at a family cabin and observed strict masking and social distancing. We even ate outside around a fire bowl (temps in the 30’s but sunny). It turned out to be our best Thanksgiving ever! Christmas will be virtual and hopefully we will be able to get together again by late spring or summer. |
