Is DSL ISP# changeable? - rocketiz - 12-30-2006

I just got DSL from verizon (the cheap version) using a Westell
modem. Since this is new to me, am I stuck with a static ISP
number? Also what kind of download/upload speeds should I expect?

Thanks

You generally have to pay extra to be "stuck" with a static IP address.

739 kbps Down
139 kbps Up

Pretty close to what I get on a regular basis whenever I do test my line.
Same modem Westell 6100

Some of us have got lucky

I get 2800+ down and 700+ up with Verizons cheap service

Just tested 2867 / 715

I am wondering - I never installed the 6100 they sent me. I still have my
old Westell Wirespeed from my former business DSL installed

I wonder if the 6100 are choked back

Wowsers lanfil, I just downloaded Firefox 2.0 at only 55 kbps-
which is dissapointing to me.

I just used Seacrests' test and got 447/130 --so I may be
calling verizon.

So far my ISP seems fixed - turning off the modem doesn't change it.
Rebooting doesn't change it --so can one change it?

Thank you all for your answers.

I'm one of the lucky one - the $17.99 deal is only supposed to be 768
But I feel it's payback for all those years I paid through the nose nearly
$50 for the same service I have now because it was on a business line

It's get even time : -)

Your ISP is Verizon, that won't change unless you cancel your service with them and go to someone else.

Your IP address is most likely dynamic, and it CAN change, but typically does not for very long periods of time. One thing that might cause it to change is if the MAC address of the device that you connect to the DSL modem changes.

Why do you want to change your ISP or IP?

I may have to run a little test and put the 6100 online and see what speed I get from it..

I'm afraid it will jinx me and then I'll be down to slower speeds
