Re: Ethernet ID = MAC address - macphanatic - 12-31-2006

Not sure if they are the same. One way to find the MAC address is:

About this Mac>More Info>Network>Locations

Scroll down to "Built-in Ethernet" or "PCI Ethernet Slot x" (if you are using a pci card). There are also MAC addresses for airport, firewire, etc depending on the devices installed.

Re: Ethernet ID = MAC address - GGD - 12-31-2006

Open the TCP/IP Control Panel
Choose "Get Info" from the "File" menu
It's the "Hardware Address" in the "Get Info" window.

I knew what a MAC address was but never knew that it was also known as an ethernet ID.

Thanks everyone, especially BGnR. The yale website is very helpful.

Yes, the MAC address is *Supposed* to be unique. Except some cards allow cloning. And most routers encourage it. Traceability..... naah.

Yale site has nice screen pics of OS9 control panel - very nostalgic.
