adding mp3's to windows media player... - Kiva - 12-31-2006

Hi..

Sorry for the windoze question, but i'm helping a friend add some mp3's that she has burned to CD to her XP machine with Windows Media Player 11. I absolutely cannot figure out how to add the mp3's to her library. There is no "add to library" command.

This program is absolutely awful. How does anybody use this POS? Does anybody know how to simply add these mp3's to her library so she can organize them, etc.? I'd tell her to get iTunes, but her father gave her a Creative Zen for xmas, so no dice there...

anybody?

kiva

If the Creative Zen acts like a USB mass storage device, your friend can still use iTunes to manage syncing (I'm only guessing to Windows XP compatibility because OS X and iTunes works this way).

Have your friend add all of her audio files to iTunes. Create some Smart Playlists. Essentially playlists which will randomly fill to a set maximum in hours, MB, GB, etc. In this case, the max capacity of the Zen. Manually click on the desired playlist, select all, and then drag and drop the files onto the Creative Zen's icon, or subfolder inside the Zen, found within the Windows Explorer.

Alternately, you may be able to select all, copy, and then paste the files into the desired directory. This method does not work from within iTunes and OS X as the copy command from within iTunes is only copying the text, not the actual files. Windows XP may behave differently, I have not bothered to download iTunes to my lonely XP box.

Voila, manual sync courtesy of iTunes Smart Playlists.

People continue to use Windows for the same reason some refuse to leave an abusive spouse. You can't reason with them....
