Best way to get video from MacBook to TV? - DaviDC. - 12-31-2006 I want to be able to view slide shows & photos on the TV & the ability to mirror the MacBook screen would be nice, but isn't essential. Apple sells 3 different video adapters that'll fit the port on my MacBook & the TV has a plethora of input ports, hence the confusion. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=4CF4C697&nclm=4CF4C697 Any recommendations? Re: Best way to get video from MacBook to TV? - onthedownlow - 12-31-2006 What kind of TV do you have? If you have an HDTV that may have VGA or DVI inputs...definitely go with the Apple Mini-DVI to VGA (or DVI) video Adapter... ...the safest bet, and compatibility with virtually every TV (still), is the good ol' Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter (SVHS connection). You must use a "Mini-DVI" connector... If you don't have SVHS though, and are needing composite...what you could do is purchase (and hook up/daisy-chain in the same order) the Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter...and...the regular-sized) Apple DVI to Video Adapter (that includes both SVHS and Composite video outputs). For any sound you might want to also input through the TV, you'll simply need to use an audio cable from your Headphone jack to your television, stereo, etc. Re: Best way to get video from MacBook to TV? - davester - 12-31-2006 You need to determine for sure what ports your TV has. It may have a plethora, but there's a strong possibility that it does not have every one possible. DVI and VGA connectors are rare in TVs. Here are the possibilities from approximately best quality to worst picture quality: HDMI DVI (macbook can connect with mini-DVI to DVI adapter) VGA (macbook can connect with mini-DVI to VGA adapter component S-video (macbook can connect with mini-DVI to video adapter) composite (macbook can connect with mini-DVI to video adapter, though much lousier PQ than S-video) RC You definitely should try to go digital (mini-DVI to DVI) if that's what your TV has. Re: Best way to get video from MacBook to TV? - DaviDC. - 12-31-2006 The TV is a 23" Olevia HD & has VGA, HDMI, Composite, & S-video. Re: Best way to get video from MacBook to TV? - onthedownlow - 12-31-2006 The easiest/best for you right now would then just get the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter... ...you can get the DVI adapter...and then purchase an HDMI-to-DVI adapter/connector from elsewhere (i.e. Radio Shack...or an online e-tailer would be cheapest) to have the full digital connection. FYI (to append to the 'best to worst' pic quality post above)...HDMI and DVI are exactly the same picture quality. The only difference is that HDMI also carries the audio signal in the cabling, as well...DVI is video-only. |
